EduTech 2000 and Ellerslie Secondary School

 EduTech 2000 Project

This project is a brainchild of the Government of Barbados and came to life through the initiatives of the Ministry of Education, Youth Affairs and Culture and its Minister, Ms. Mia Amor Mottley in 1997.

The programme is an attempt to revamp and reform education in Barbados and it is expected that teaching and learning will be radically and dynamically reformed. The emphasis will be on providing meaningful education for all students in all schools.

Training for teachers so far included Basic Computer Skills, Educational Theory and Technology in the Classroom.

Our involvement in the EduTech 2000 Project

In 1997 Ellerslie Secondary School was selected as one of the pilot schools for the EduTech 2000 Project.

Training had already begun at the school, however as our Staff Development Programme and our Strategic Plan had envisioned the development of such a programme at the national level.

The emphasis this term (Sep - Dec 1998), is centred on involving the Department Heads and teachers in each department to specific training modules.

These modules included:

the use of the Internet for pedagogical purposes

the creation and modification of the existing Syllabus, Schemes of Work and lesson plans to incorporate the changes envisioned by the EduTech 2000 Project

planning for the implementation and infusion of technology into the curriculum

a general preparation for a significant change in the process of education at Ellerslie Secondary School.
